It’s a great expansion of Slenderman’s creepypasta lore, even though game’s story is left somewhat lacking. It does a very good job at rising players’ internal tension to make them anxious and doubtful of their surroundings. To summarize, Slender: The Arrival is a great horror game. Not everything is explained in depth, and is left up to you to figure out. And there’s still a lot of questions after you’ve collected them all and completed the game. There’s not much known before the arrival of main heroine, until you start collecting notes and letters. And the story in the whole is pretty shallow. All main story lines are told mostly by collectable notes and environment. There’s not much to tell about the story of “The Arrival”, except for it being mediocre. And the more pages you collect, the more aggressive he becomes. As soon as you collect the first page, Slenderman will begin his hunt. The only thing you can rely on is your personal memory. Additionally, all pages and all the environmental objects are randomly generated during each run. You navigate through dark forest to collect eight sketches. Since “The Arrival” is built solely on “The Eight Pages”, it’s best to describe the original gameplay idea that was inherited by “The Arrival”. The sole thought of tall, faceless man stalking you in dark woods is enough to make the most out of your paranoia. But you can’t tell his exact location, and that makes your anxiety rise pretty quickly. You can literally feel Slenderman’s presence through background noise and occasional ambient noise. “The Arrival” triggers a very narrow angle of emotions, but it hits pretty hard. The whole playthrough will take approximately 2 hours (it took me 2 hours and 10 minutes on my first playthrough, all collectibles included), it’s very possible to beat the game in a whopping 30 minutes, but I’d recommend to take it slow and steady, to feel ambience and the essence of anxiety. Only a few chapters will require you to actually fight against the Slenderman, other chapters serve the purpose of storytelling and “calm before the storm”.

The whole game is divided into 8 chapters with the optional 9th chapter, being a level ported from the original game. “The Arrival” haven’t gone far from collecting pages and evading Slenderman, but it expanded this idea and made it better, with more gameplay hours and better graphics on top. Slender: The Arrival is the re-imagining of one of the most classic horror games – Slender: The Eight Pages.
